My 5 Most Influential Games

Below are (at this time) 5 games that had the most impact to me. Most of these games are in my opinion classics that get re-done or re-invented over time.

In my opinion this was one of the very first games I came across on the PC. It was easy to play and pretty much anyone could get into the game. Since it allowed you to compete with another person it was something you could sit down with friends and family and just have a blast. It's also an example of how a simple concept can be successful.

Breakout / Brick Breaker / etc
Another early game with simple concepts that was hugely successful. Again it was something easy to grasp and get into to play. It's amazing to me how this simple game is still being re-done today on all sorts of devices from modern consoles to smart phones - to extremes of being re-invented like Shatter. Definitely a classic game.

Another classic game, that to me was the first puzzle game. It's one of those addictive games that just keeps calling you back to try to get further and better. It's also been re-invented and re-done over time to sometimes something completely weird like Dr. Mario on SNES.

Space Invaders
I absolutely love this classic game that would just get me hooked trying to play and get to the next level. Nothing really exotic about the game, but keep you hooked and wanting to play more.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
This is the first game that got me hooked with on-line play. I normally have avoided on-line play, because of the number of douches that would ruin the experience. This game though was addictive with ranking-up and the fast paced action I just couldn't enough off. While I enjoyed the single-player (hated the infinite enemy spawns, but loved the AC-130 level), it was the multiplayer that got me into online play and I think set the bar for future online games.

Honorable Mentions
These are games I think should be mentioned because they classics in their own right and it made it difficult to finally pick 5:
Super Mario Bros (SNES)
Flower (PS3)
Centipede (Atari)
Mike Tyson's Punch Out (SNES)
Ratchet & Clank (PS2/PS3)
